Damodar Kunda Trekking

Damodar Kunda (Lake) situated in Mustang District of Nepal, a basin in the Damodar Himal (6706m) and flows southward through a rain shadow valley on the eastern edge of the Annapurna Range. The elevation of the Damodar Kunda is just 4890 meters and it is cold and windy place.

Damodar Kunda trekking offers superb panoramic views whole Annapurna range, lush valleys, beautiful landscape, Tibetan monasteries. The views are great from some viewpoints a bit higher than the lakes, just a short climb up some of the hills. The Tibetan plateau and Damodar Himal (6706m) with 65 peaks in this Himalayan range to the north and the Annapurna Himalayan massive to the south. Damodar Kunda has own history in the column of Barah Puran; Lord Krishna has said that who pays a visit to this Kunda and takes a deep-bath, they will be freed from all the sin. It is also mentioned in Puran that two sons of Kubers were suffering from their wrong doing & sin, which they did in their previous birth but lord Krishna suggested them to take bath in this Kunda and immediately after taking bath in this Kunda they were released from all their sin.

We will recommend you to visit during the full moon of August every year; because every year there is a big festival up there many pilgrimages Hindu and Buddhist visit full moon of August. Usually, you can visit April to September every year. Festival time will be great to visit Damodar Kunda.

Damodar Kunda Trekking / 22 Days - Detail Itinerary

Day 01: Arrive at Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA) Kathmandu (1300m)
Namaste & welcome to Mountain Guide Trek of Nepal. Upon your arrival, you will be greeted by a representative from Mountain guide Treks (MGT). After completing your custom formalities (Visa, etc) pick up your luggage and look for our representative with a Mountain Guide Treks and Expedition with Group leader's name display board at the arrival gate. You will be then transferred to Hotel. After check in, if time allows, you will visit MGT office to meet your trekking leader as well as other participants and for final preparation for the trip. It all depends upon your arrival time. (Overnight at deluxe hotel on BB basis)

Day 02: Kathmandu: Sightseeing and Trek Preparation
The day after breakfast we will start sightseeing tour with our professional tour guide to the several of most historical and spiritual Place in Kathmandu. Some of these landmarks are considered the World Heritage historic Sites such as Durbar Square, the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupati Nath, the famous 'Monkey Temple' (Swayambunath) and Buddhists shrine (Buddha Nath) which is one of the largest Stupas in the world. After come back from the tour there will be a pre-trip discussion with our trek leader and other team members. Mountain Guide Trek will brief you regarding your trek as well as we may have an opportunity to discuss any difficulties regarding our upcoming adventure. Rest of the time you could use for travelling around the Thamel and shopping of needed equipments and other necessaries. (Overnight at deluxe hotel on BB basis)

Day 03: Kathmandu (1300m) to Pokhara (900m) by bus, 6 hrs or by fly, 30 min. 
We start our day early in the morning to catch a tourist bus at 7 am, we then set off for Pokhara via Nepalese country side that offer green hills, river, farms etc. After a 200 km and around 6 hours drive we reach Pokhara (a city of Lake, literally); or 30 min. fly to Pokhara as per departure time. A city that offers us the magnificent view of various mountains namely Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Machhapuchre and other mountain of Annapurna range.  Do some last minute shopping and self exploration around the town (walk around few lake, boating etc) (Overnight at deluxe hotel on BB basis)

Day 04: Fly Pokhara to Jomsom (2720m), then trek to Kagbeni (2800m), 3-4 hrs.
you will be land on district headquarters of Mustang and will start trek to Kagbeni, the starting point of the Upper Mustang where you can make your eyes busy for the spectacular views of Nilgiri, Dhaulagiri, Tukuche peak and Dhampus. Kagbeni is the most interesting typical Tibetan village and the entry point of the upper Mustang for overnight stop. (Overnight at tented camp on full board basis)

Day 05: Trek from Kagbeni to Chele (3100m) 6-7 hrs.
The trail leads up toward the east bank of the Kaligandaki that climbs over many ridges as it heads north and reaches Tangbe Village. The town is labyrinth of narrow alleys amongst white washed house, fields of buckwheat, barley, wheat and apple orchards. The Nilgiri peaks,which dominates the southern skyline of Kagbenic continues to loom massively at the foot of the valley. Beyond Tangbe we reach Chhusang Village and crosses the river, continue climbing north up the trail to a huge red chunk of conglomerate that has fallen from the cliff above forming a tunnel through which the Kaligandaki follows. The trek now leaves the Kaligandaki valley and climb steeply up a rocky gully to Chele at 3030m. (Overnight at tented camp on full board basis)

Day 06: Trek from Chele to Gheling (3570m), 7-8 hrs. 
Climb continues along step, treeless, waterless terrain, along the side of the spectacular steep canyon to pass and cairn of rock at 3540m. Then the trail makes a long gradual descent to some shortens on a ridge, and then the trail descends further on a pleasant trail to Samar. The Annapurna, still dominated by Nilgiri, is visible far to the south. Climb above Samar to a ridge, then descend into a large gorge and the trail goes into another valley field, crosses a stream and climbs up to a ridge at 3800m. The route climbs sharply up and down over a series of high passes, before the final descend to Geiling. (Overnight at tented camp on full board basis)

Day 07: Trek from Geling to Tsarang (3560m ), 6-7 hrs.
From Geling, the trail climbs gently to the interesting pass on our trek NYILA and descends below the blue, gray and red cliffs. After crossing a steel bridge of the Tangmar Chu (river), we will arrive to a MANI (Prayer WALL) perhaps the longest and most spectacular stretch and main wall in Nepal. Climbing over another pass at 3600m the route makes a long gentle descent to Charang. The huge five €“ storey white Dzong and red Gompa is an interesting visit to observe collections of statues and Thankas as well as many large paintings of seated Buddha€™s. Day 08: Trek from Tsarang to Lo Manthang (3840m ), 5-6 hrs. 
The trail descends about 100 meters down from Charang, crosses the Charang - Chu and climbs steeply up a rocky trail to a cairn on a ridge and continues to climb. Finally, from a ridge at 3850m there is a view of the walled city of LO. After a short descent, cross a stream then climb up into the plateau of Lo- Manthang. Day 09: Lo-Manthang, day hiking exploring around 
Another day in Lo - Manthang gives you the chance to explore its many sights, the Tall Champa Lakhang (God house,) the red Thugchen Gompa, Chyodi Gompa and the Raja's Palace; as well as to gaze at the surrounding panoramic views of the Tibetan Plateau and the Himalaya. Besides Lo-Manthangthere is two other interesting valleys worth visiting. The western valley Tingkhar, the sight of Raja's summer palace, Kimling and Phuwa as well as the Gompa of Namgyal (The Monastery of Victory) is the newest and most active Gompa in Lo. In the eastern valley lies the village of Chosar, also rich in Gompas and the valley is the main trading route to Lhasa. (Overnight at tented camp on full board basis)

Day 10: Lo- Manthang trek to Yara (3650m) 5-6 hrs.
Today we start our trek gently descending down ward but, before reaching Dhie village it€™s a steep down walk for half an hour and we reach Dhie village. After crossing Dhie village we come to cross the river on a metallic bridge and also enjoy walking on the bank of the river. Now we have a steep climb up for about an hour and some gentle steep walk before coming to Yara. (Overnight at tented camp on full board basis)

Day 11: Trek Yara to Ghuma Thanti (4800m) 6-7 hrs.
Today, we climb up to reach Luri Cave Monastery and visit that interesting Cave Monastery. After that, we follow the barren valley after crossing 5100meter pass; we prepare pack lunch due to no appropriate cooking possibilities on the trek. (Overnight at tented camp on full board basis)

Day 12: Trek Ghuma Thanti to Damodar Kunda (4890m) 8-9 hrs.
The trek will start after breakfast continues with up and down trail in this day, after crossing another 5600meter pass we will reach High Altitude Damodar Kunda. We need to make lunch pack due to no appropriate cooking possibilities in the trail. (Overnight at tented camp on full board basis)

Day 13: Exploring the high altitude Damodar Kunda/Lake (4890m)
The day is exploring day around Damodar Kunda / Lake, you enjoy with magnificent of Damodar Kunda and surrounding the area. (Overnight at tented camp on full board basis)

Day 14: Trek  Damodar Kunda to Ghuma Thanti (4800m) 7-8 hrs.
Today, we return back all the same way passing over the 5600m high pass. The trail again ups and down same like before. We will make our lunch in some small stream in the trail. (Overnight at tented camp on full board basis)

Day 15: Trek Ghuma Thanti to Yara (3900m) 6-7 hrs.
Today also we come back all the same route which before we climb up. The trail continues downhill until reaching Yara Village. We prepare our lunch on the trail. (Overnight at tented camp on full board basis)

Day 16: Trek Yara to Tangye (3240m) 7-8 hrs.
Today is little bit difficult and long trail for us. Therefore we start our trek early in the morning, the trail continues steep down to Dechhyang Khola which origin is from Damodar Kunda. Then the trail steeply ascents and leads us to the top of the pass where we have our packed lunch break, so we need to make pack lunch  in Yara due to no appropriate cooking possibilities in the trail. After lunch, the trail goes up and down and then we are on a huge plateau and cross it for reaching to Tangya village. (Overnight at tented camp on full board basis)

Day 17: Trek Tangya to Tetang (3040m) 8-9 hrs. 
Today also we have long trail. Cross the suspension bridge and follow the short river route. After crossing the river, we steeply climb up to reach a small pass. Then the trail goes straight to Paha (shelter house) where we make our lunch. Here is small water tap for drinking water. After the lunch break we continue crossing many small passes until we reach the top of the hill, then the trail steeply descends and we encounter strong winds until we reach Tetang village. Day 18: Trek Tetang to Muktinath (3700m) 5-6 hrs.
After breakfast, we follow our trail through the village after passing the scenic Mani walls. Then, we climb up to the wide valley. After walking the plateau, we keep ascending until reaching small pass from where we can see the high mountains and picturesque view of Muktinath. Then, we drop down to the small stream and cross by a suspension bridge. After that, we enter in the village of Chhyongar and follow the level trail until reaching Muktinath passing Kani/gate. (Overnight at tented camp on full board basis)

Day 19: Trek Muktinath to Jomsom (2720m) 5-6 hrs.
After breakfast, we leave the village and drop down to Jharkot village where we visit the ancient Sakyamuni Buddhist Monastery and Traditional Medical Center. Then, we follow the dusty road trail for a while and choose short cut left trail until reaching Eklebatti where we have our lunch. After lunch, we follow again dusty and strong wind road level trail along the Kaligandaki River to reach Jomsom. (Overnight at tented camp on full board basis)

Day 20: Fly Jomsom to Pokhara (960m), 20 min.
Early Morning we fly to Pokhara with thrilling fantastic Mountain View including Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Annapurna south, Annapurna I and Machhapuchre during the flight. In the day Time if we have time we will meet the places are in Pokhara such as International Mountain Museum, Devis falls, and Boating in Fewa Lake. (Overnight at deluxe hotel on BB basis)

Day 21: Pokhara to Kathmandu fly 25 min. /drive 6-7 hrs.
In the morning we fly to Kathmandu, be sure to catch the left side of airplane for the best views of Himalayas. Or if by bus, we will arrange ticket in tourist coach at river side seat and start your journey at 7:30 am from Pokhara. Left site's seats of vehicles are nice to enjoy the scenery; the road follows by Trisuli River where you see many people rafting on the river. Around 2:00 pm you will arrive at Kathmandu (beside Thamel) and transfer to your hotel. The day at leisure to rest, perhaps catch up on some last minute shopping or explore any sights you missed during your first day in Kathmandu. Remember, we will be hosting a fantastic celebration "Farewell dinner" at traditional Nepalese restaurant with Mountain Guide Trek staffs for successful completion of the Damodar Kunda Trek! Day 22: Farewell Friend (Final departure to your onward destination)
Today is last day in Nepal for this trip, you are saying good bye to the mountains as journey in Nepal, comes to an end today! There is nothing to do but trade emails with travel companions and organize the photos. If you have more time you can do some shopping or sightseeing. Approximately 3 hours before the scheduled flight a representative from Mountain Guide Treks will take you to the airport.

Similarly, multiple-entry tourist visas for 90 days can be obtained by paying US $ 100. Please bring 2 copies of passport-size photos.)
